- Sight and Life
I belong to a family that has depended on farming for generations. In fact, many hot Indian summers were spent playing with my grandparents in the lush green paddy fields of coastal South India. Masked by this natural lush green beauty is the widespread malnutrition among farmers and their families, harsh enough to disrupt lives.
Creative solutions to simplify the chain of procurement and bring efficiency to distribution systems are necessary in order to improve farmers’ shares of profits, make food systems sustainable, and ensure affordable nutrition reaches the vulnerable. This is what I get to do at Sight and Life.
“Sight and Life offers the ideal platform of knowledge and tools with a large credible network to harness the power of cross-sectoral implementation in nutrition. We accelerate exchange of ideas and collaborations to advance social innovations that fight ‘hidden hunger’.” – Kalpana Beesabathuni
My desire to make a genuine difference to low-income economies, and bring food and nutrition security, has stemmed from my roots. My resolve became stronger when a mentor quoted Mary Oliver: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” The little girl who played in the fields now wants to spend her wild and precious life empowering those who work there.
