Since nearly 25 years, SIGHT AND LIFE has been working on supplementation with vitamin A – with great success.
In 2003, SIGHT AND LIFE included other micronutrients as well and concentrated on Hidden Hunger, Double Burden of Malnutrition, and Nutritional Anemia.
And still, SIGHT AND LIFE is working on vitamin - by actively enabling Knowledge Creation and Dissemination clarifying the role of vitamin A. The new edition of the VADD Manuel will be published soon.
Additionally, SIGHT AND LIFE is very much engaged in the DSM partnership with the World Food Programme, with the goal to improve and increase access to nutritious food for people in poor countries and during humanitarian crises - especially for children and women.
In this partnership, DSM and WFP jointly developed MixMeTM sachets. It was developed to provide people in developing countries with micronutrients that can be easily mixed with food at home. This "home fortification" is a novel approach to the enrichment of food with micronutrients, as food is usally fortified industrially during the processing stage. |
