Vitamin A deficiency is a serious public health problem in less developed areas of the world where the population earns a low income and consumes diets low in vitamin A. Chronic intake of foods low in vitamin A and -carotene forming an unbalanced diet with little variety, which leads to micronutrient deficiencies, is common in many populations.
