The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates there are over 33 million people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) worldwide, with 20 million infected in Africa alone. This estimate includes two million children under 15 years of age infected with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.1 In addition there is a geographic overlap of HIV and malnutrition in many locations such as sub-Saharan  Africa, where over 30% of adults have inadequate dietary intake.
