Eye screening An ophthalmologist checked a total of 500 children aged 6 months to 6 years. There were 237, 97 and 166 children respectively from Chalal, Bhumidanda and Volumtar. Among them, 31 were found to have symptoms of VAD (6.2%). All of these received medical treatment. Nutritional education All the women in the targeted areas were given education on VAD. It was found to be more effective to visit mothers of children with VAD signs at home. Mothers of children under the age of 5 years were asked about their health status and educated about the importance of vitamin A, the consequences of VAD, the importance of breast-feeding and nutritious weaning food as well as the production, preservation and preparation of vitamin A Nutritional education campaign in three villages of Kavrepalanchok, Nepal Ashish Sharma, Youth Volunteer Group (YVG), Banepa, Kavrepalanchok, Kathmandu, Nepal.
