The last issue of SIGHT AND LIFE1 included an article on the continuing poor vitamin A situation that exists in many parts of Ethiopia. One interesting fact was that, in at least two surveys, the prevalence of Bitot’s spots and corneal lesions was found to be lowest in the Sidama Region of Southern Ethiopia . This was attributed to the high consumption of green leafy vegetables, notably kale.
