We face a harsh health reality in the developing world. Nutritional defi ciencies, predominantly in the form of micronutrient malnutrition, increase the susceptibility to communicable diseases  and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Many economically developing regions are now suff ering a double burden of obesity, diabetes and other related NCDs, on top of nutritional defi ciencies and infectious diseases.
