y name is Stacy-Leigh Samuels and I was born and raised in a small town called Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape in South Africa. A little over four years ago, I realized that I had a passion for helping people in any way possible, and so, I decided to study Dietetics. I have never looked back. Being a dietitian allows me to work with people on a daily basis to do what I can to improve their health and well-being through nutrition. I was privileged to be rewarded for my hard work and dedication during my final year of study as I received awards for the Best Final Year Dietetics Student in Nephrology, Nutrition Education and Health Promotion and Community Nutrition (the latter was sponsored by Sight and Life), as well as the Rector’s Award for excellent academic achievement. During my four years of training, I realized that dietitians play an important role within a community – from the promotion of breastfeeding, to the preven- tion, treatment and control of malnutrition in adults and children.
