Climate change refers to long-term (over a period of 30 years), significant changes in regional climate characteristics, including temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind, and severe weather events, according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).1 While climate change has been recognized, studied, and debated for decades, the recognition that climate change is not only an environmental issue but also one critical to development is relatively recent.2,3 This article provides a brief overview of the phenomenon of climate change and posits a perspective of its direct and indirect influence on hidden hunger, a topic of special interest to SIGHT AND LIFE. Like climate change, hidden hunger (i.e., vitamin-mineral deficiencies, or VMDs) is a problem that is largely invisible to human senses and is often only detected through the presence of its effects or symptoms. Also, like climate change, global hidden hunger is an issue that has long been recognized and studied, and toward which solutions have been developed and deployed for decades. However, unlike climate change today, hidden hunger is all too often sidelined when other issues arise that seize the attention of politimate change has significant effects on these and thus influences the development agenda significantly.
