Of the estimated two billion people suffering from micronutrient deficiencies – sometimes referred to as “hidden hunger” – the most vulnerable are women and children. Such deficiencies are now recognized as leading to compromised health and well-being, reduced cognitive development, poor reproductive outcomes, increased maternal and infant and young child mortality, and negative impacts on each nation’s health and productivity. In combination, these consequences undermine efforts to end global poverty.
