Uganda Action for Nutrition Society (UGAN) was founded by professionals, mostly academics and researchers within nutrition and allied fields, from the East African region (Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda). The rationale for  the setup of the Nutrition Coalition Societies for Action in the East African region is to “work together for better nutrition.” The UGAN conference, held in Kampala, on February 19–20, 2009, was the first to be held in Uganda, and second only to the inaugural conference held in Kenya.
