How timely that, as this edition of the Sight and Life magazine focuses on Africa, Prof. Anna Lartey – or ‘Anna from Ghana’, as she is widely known – has become the fi rst African, and only the second woman ever (aft er Barbara Underwood of the United States), to be appointed President of the IUNS. Anna has been a member of the IUNS Council for the past eight years and is an Alumna of the African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP). At the same time as becoming IUNS President, Anna – who was for many years Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Ghana – has also joined the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) as Director of Nutrition. This combination will ensure that the bridge between nutrition and agriculture that has for so long been talked about as vital will become a reality, and we know that she will be an inspirational and active President. Congratulations from us all!
