Goal: Support research innovation in multiple micronutrient powders (MNPs) formulation, packaging and program delivery.

Sight and Life is actively involved with partners in the area of MNPs. In conjunction with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Sight and Life together with DSM has developed multiple MNP sachets which delivers 15 micronutrients. These powders are sprinkled on the child’s food. The formulation has been endorsed by both the WFP and The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). MNPs have now been recognized as an effective way to deliver indispensable nutrition, through various delivery platforms, either free or through a market-based approach.

In collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology, we support the development of new formulations that improve the safety of iron in the context of diseases such as malaria and diarrhea.

Together with The Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science at the New York Academy of Sciences, we initiated an open innovation competition to promote innovations for more sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging for MNPs, to lower the impact the packaging has on the environment.

We also support WFP and UNICEF in research that informs the effective and efficient delivery of MNP to families with young children. We support formative research, process evaluations, and social and behavior change communication (SBCC).
