Project Playground is an after school program for children living in the gang dominated township of Langa situated just outside Cape Town in South Africa.
They offer a safe environment for some 700 children to spend the afternoons, after school, engaged in a range of sports and other recreational activities such as dance, theatre and art. As most of the children come from poor families they also provide a meal, which Sight and Life supplements with a vitamin and mineral fortified beverage.
“Many of our children come to our center hungry and malnourished, and thanks to Sight and Life we can offer our children a daily dose of vitamins and minerals. The contribution from Sight and Life is also essential to the group of disabled children that come to our day care center and that, for various reasons, are often not properly fed at home. We acknowledge that you cannot learn on an empty stomach, but also how vital healthy food and vitamins are for the development of each child, and that is why we are so grateful to Sight and Life for their important and generous contribution to our work.” – Frida Vesterberg, Project Playground Co-Founder
Play on Wheels, is another component of the project that supports often neglected disabled children and gives their caregivers time-off. Play on Wheels provides these children with stimulation three times a week, as well as ensuring that they receive a nutritious meal that Sight and Life supplements with a vitamin and mineral fortified beverage.
