Anirudh Poddar

Strategy Associate, India

“Together, we can take the steps needed to free the world of hunger, poverty, and health crises by the end of this century."

Anirudh

As part of a rural immersion program organized by my college I had the opportunity to stay with a tribal family at the young age of 22 years old. During this exchange, my host family shared their way of life with me, discovering first-hand the culture around eating and their diet, largely comprised of rice, rice-based bread, and a portion of vegetable curry. I spent many of my afternoons playing with the three children of my host family, and was surprised to learn that my host sister was, in fact, thirteen years old, as I had previously thought she was considerably younger. This was the case for many teenagers, and I could immediately see the connection between the average diet, which was relatively low in nutritional value, and stunted growth.

This eye-opening experience helped to shape  the vision and goals I had for my professional career. I went back, got my degree in engineering and took up a consulting position with a global firm. Before joining the Sight and Life team, I began applying my skillset to tackle healthcare issues in high-income countries over the course of two years.

As a Strategy Associate, with Sight and Life, I am thrilled to work with a brilliant and self-driven group of people committed to eliminating all forms of malnutrition in children and women. I am privileged to be a part of this global team that is building unique, science-based, scalable solutions to pressing problems. I am excited to contribute my knowledge and skills in strategy and implementation pertaining to health industry supply chains and work to strengthen programs. My past experience allowed me to better understand how programs could help to efficiently and effectively increase accessibility and affordability of nutritious foods and micronutrient supplementation.

We must take action to recognize and address the challenges faced by the most vulnerable. I see the efforts of our younger generations to solve problems that matter, and believe that together, we will take the steps needed to free the world of hunger, poverty, and health crises by the end of this century.
