nutrition value chain, supported by our global network in businesses, governments, NGOs,
United Nations agencies, and academia.

THE OPPORTUNITY: The consultant will aid Sight and Life in assessing the sourcing options
for UNIMMAP MMS in Nepal. The supply assessment will cover aspects of manufacturing and
import policy, evaluate local manufacturing capabilities and regional/ international
manufacturers of MMS. The goal of this exercise is to build a roadmap for cost-effective,
quality, and timely procurement of MMS in Nepal.

About UNIMMAP MMS:

Sight and Life, is developing market based models to introduce affordable and
accessible maternal supplements. They are also referred to as Multiple Micronutrient
Supplements (MMS). As of 2021, WHO has included MMS on their Essential Medicines List.
There is a backing of 20+ years of research-based evidence on this formulation’s superiority
over Iron Folic Acid and other supplements. There is a global movement for the transition to
MMS from traditional IFA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interview major pharmaceutical companies (70%):Shortlist and interview major local
pharmaceutical companies in Nepal specializing in supplement tablet manufacturing (including
Iron Folic Acid (IFA) tablets) or are suppliers to the govt. of nutrition commodities.

  • Understand technical capabilities for production of MMS (capsuling, repackaging or
    production from RM).
  • Evaluate timelines and capex required for sourcing scenarios (local production, bulk
    tablet import + local repacking, premix import + local capsuling, FG import etc)
  • Understand challenges and barriers for MMS manufacturing (FDA guidelines)

Assess regulations and policies (20%): Review policies surrounding production and quality
standards for manufacturing of UNIMMAP MMS in Nepal. Assessing policy and regulations relating to MMS (RM/FG) import.

Cost Matrix deveopment (10%): Develop a tablet cost matrix considering sourcing scenario,
pack size, packaging type and procurement volumes for local as well as international suppliers
of MMS.

Additional Responsibilities: Support interviews with regional and international manufacturers
of MMS

 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, Management, Communication, Marketing, or related field.
MUST-HAVE SKILLS

Expertise in pharmaceutical industry (specifically Nepal)
– Technical understanding of MMS (Multivitamin) production (processes and equipment
involved)
– Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
– Independent worker with the initiative to undertake tasks and projects without constant
supervision.
– Good networking abilities to engage with stakeholders and partners effectively.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

– Fluent in Nepali and English
– Must have impeccable writing skills.
