THE OPPORTUNITY
  • We are seeking a Scientific Writer to support the development of high-quality, evidence-based scientific and technical materials within the organization.
  • The role involves transforming complex research findings into clear, well-structured, and engaging written outputs tailored for different audiences, including researchers, policymakers, and donors. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and analytical skills, a solid understanding of nutrition and public health, and experience in preparing manuscripts, reports, and communication materials that meet scientific and editorial standards.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in conducting and synthesizing literature reviews and translating scientific evidence into clear, well-structured written outputs. The position is suited for candidates with advanced scientific training (MSc or PhD with equivalent experience) who have strong skills in research synthesis, data interpretation, and scientific writing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop programmatic editorial plans: define scope, milestones, roles, deadlines; track risks/decisions; convene working sessions; and ensure contributor accountability.
  • Conduct literature reviews and evidence syntheses to inform publications, concept notes, and program design.
  • Write, edit, and proofread scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and project documentation with the technical team.
  • Translate research findings into clear outputs for scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Draft sections for special reports, summaries, and other knowledge products highlighting Sight and Life’s work.
  • Prepare policy briefs, executive summaries, and other science communication materials.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, proper referencing, and adherence to publication standards.
  • Coordinate with design/production on layouts, figures, and infographics.
  • Support dissemination through presentations, blogs, and webinars as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • MSc or PhD in Nutrition, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related scientific field.
  • Proven experience in scientific or technical writing, ideally with publications or contributions to
    peer-reviewed papers.
  • Solid understanding of research methods and data interpretation.
  • Experience with referencing software (EndNote, Zotero, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Excellent scientific writing and editing skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to synthesize complex scientific information into clear, concise, and compelling content.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Genuine interest in nutrition, public health, and evidence-based communication.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have impeccable writing skills.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
