ABOUT SIGHT AND LIFE

Sight and Life (SAL) is a Swiss-based charitable foundation and research organization. For over 35 years, we have delivered science-based innovative solutions to eliminate all forms of malnutrition in women, adolescents and children. Our small and agile team works to improve the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable populations in LMICs across the world. With over 70% of staff living and working in LMICs, we bring together diverse backgrounds and experiences to solve some of the most complex challenges in global health and nutrition.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Global Director – Communications, the Social Media and Creative Content Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing original and interesting visual and content concepts and narratives, translating SAL’s messaging into multimedia materials. This will be a high-performing person combining visual and language skills; they will have a strong knowledge of, and expertise in, different media channels such as social media, newsletters (mailchimp), website CMS, infographics, posters and other multi-media communications collaterals. They will be able to adapt the same content to different contexts and platforms offline and online, tailoring the messaging for different audiences.
The most important skill for Social Media and Creative Content Manager will be originality and creative thinking – they will bring their unique perspective to the team and take ownership of improving SAL’s online messaging and storytelling.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Creative content and graphic design (50%)

  • Create different kinds of visual elements (infographics, posters, AVs) to go along with project proposals, reports, website content, social media posts etc
  • Be responsible for the newsletter design and publishing on mailchimp
  • Develop event collaterals in keeping with SAL visual narrative
  • Design SAL publications and guides such as Special Reports and project-related toolkits
  • Create desk video edits for quick and small videos that can be made from existing footage
  • Develop and maintain library of visual assets for SAL
  • Any other tasks that support the organization’s communication and visibility



Social Media Management (30%)

  • Plan, manage and operate all of SAL’s social media channels making sure they are active and engaging
  • Coordinate with project teams for information and updates on programs to keep social media messaging relevant and up to date
  • Facilitate webinars and online events/ live chats as and when required
  • Live coverage of SAL events on Twitter as and when required
  • Periodically review and assess the performance of the social media channels and tweak the social media strategy to meet changing requirements for growth and engagement online



Website vendor management (20%)

SAL website is managed by an external vendor. The Social Media and Creative Content Manager will manage this relationship and lead periodic changes and updates to the website along with the communications director and SAL leadership team.

  • They will be the point of contact for the website vendor and be a link between SAL team and the vendor team as and when required
  • They will support the website vendor with designs and materials required for any updates
  • They will oversee the website vendor’s work and ensure the required work is being done to keep the website smooth and running, and analytics and data reports are being received and updated in a timely fashion
Accountability

Reports to: Global Director, Communications
Works with: Communications Team – and, need-based, with Project Teams

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Skills Required

  • Strong design and aesthetic sense
  • They must keep on top of visual communications trends and bring fresh and innovative ideas to the team
  • Strong social media optimization and analytical skills, and ability to keep on top of changing trends and algorithms
  • The Manager should be able to use the information provided to make interesting and new recommendations to the Communications Director to strengthen SAL’s external communications
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and newer AI-supported design tools
  • Comfortable and knowledgeable about website CMS and basic functioning of website
  • Strong writing and editorial skills


In addition, they should possess the following:

  • MA in Communications / Design / Visual Communications or similar will be strongly preferred Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Time management skills are a must and an ability to manage weekly and daily work schedules
  • An effective communicator with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in the development sector would be a plus, but not necessary
  • Any experience in the media or communications organization is preferred
  • Knowledge of nonprofit work and nutrition issues around the world is ideal

  • 12 months with the possibility of a permanent contract
  • Remote work with flexible hours
