Sight and Life will be at the Micronutrient Forum 7th Global Conference in Accra, Ghana, convening a session on Menstrual Health in Girls and Women. The session will explore how menstrual bleeding and pain affect girls’ and women’s health and daily lives, where important evidence gaps remain, and what it will take to translate stronger understanding into better support and care.

About the event

The Micronutrient Forum 7th Global Conference (MNF 2026) will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 28 September to 1 October 2026, under the theme “Nutrition at the Frontiers of a Changing Environment.”

The Conference will bring together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, funders and other leaders from across the global nutrition community to advance evidence, policy and action on some of the most pressing micronutrient and nutrition challenges.

As part of the Forum, Sight and Life will convene the session “Menstrual Health in Girls and Women,” bringing greater attention to an issue that cuts across menstrual health, nutrition, adolescent health and clinical care.

For many girls and women, menstrual bleeding and pain can affect iron status, energy, concentration and everyday life. Yet the connections between these experiences, anaemia and access to appropriate support and care are still too often overlooked or addressed in isolation.

Bringing together perspectives from research, clinical care, public health and implementation, the session will examine what the evidence tells us, where critical gaps remain and how girls’ and women’s experiences can better inform research, programmes and care.

What the session will explore

Through discussion with experts across sectors, the session will:

• Explore the relationship between menstrual bleeding, iron deficiency and anaemia, and why it deserves greater attention within the nutrition agenda.
• Highlight the importance of girls’ and women’s lived experiences in shaping research priorities, solutions and approaches to care.
• Examine key evidence, measurement and implementation gaps that still need to be addressed.
• Discuss how stronger evidence can translate into earlier recognition, appropriate support and better care for girls and women.
